Characteristics of stainless steel
1 . The addition of chromium in stainless steel helps the material resist corrosion from air and moisture, which can lead to rusting (or "staining") of standard mild steel.
2 . The chromium content naturally combines with the oxygen in the atmosphere to form a microscopically thin and stable chromium oxide layer.
3 . The passivation oxide layer can prevent the diffusion of oxygen to the surface of the stainless steel and prevent the diffusion of corrosion to the internal structure of the material.
4 . If the chromium oxide layer is cut, scratched or otherwise damaged, a new oxide layer will quickly form to cover the exposed area, thereby protecting it from corrosion. This self-repair process requires oxygen. Therefore, the effectiveness of stainless steel in a low-oxygen environment is significantly reduced.
Benefits of using stainless steel
Deep-drawn stainless steel parts are ideal for a wide range of applications. The high corrosion resistance of this material is its greatest and most desirable characteristic. It also has a unique appearance. Stainless steel can be steam cleaned and sterilized, and does not require paint or other surface treatments, so it is a very low maintenance material.
Deep drawn stainless steel
In the deep drawing process, the sheet metal is processed into the desired part shape using a mechanical press and a series of progressive dies. First, the stainless steel plate is "punched" or cut into a round or special-shaped flat plate. From there, the blank is fed into the wire drawing machine, where the steel punches sequentially press the metal into the die, and each die moves the material closer to the final shape of the part. Produce seamless one-piece metal parts.
Any holes that may be required during the design process are punched through the part after the drawing process. After the part is finished, trim the excess material.
Deep drawing is a "cold working" process. When stainless steel is stretched and formed into a part shape, its grain structure changes and the material undergoes work hardening. The physical strength of deep-drawn stainless steel parts is much higher than its original material.
