Micro end mills, is end mill with very small diameter, smaller than 4mm, many micro end mill diameter is smaller than 1mm. Tips for using micro end mills:
1),Run-out accuracy. Micro diameter end mills are easy to break because of their low rigidity. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly control the run-out accuracy and use the thermal expansion tool holder with high clamping accuracy to clamp the end mill.
2),Cutting speed.Even if the rotation speed of small diameter end mill is increased, it may not reach enough cutting speed for micro end mills. Especially for ball nose micro end mill, the actual cutting diameter is very small. Therefore, when using small diameter end mill, effective measures must be taken according to the actual cutting speed.
3),Control the change of cutting depth to avoid sudden load. Especially for the corner part, the load of the end mill will increase along with the increase of the cutting depth. Therefore, it is necessary to increase a pre-processing procedure to make the cutting depth of small-diameter end mill uniform.The cycloid tool path can effectively balance the cutting depth. However, compared with linear feed, the tool path of cycloid tool path is longer and the processing time is also longer. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the cutting conditions to offset the extended milling time.
