Boiler Header Description

Boiler steam header classification
1. Downcomers are pipes leading from the top to the bottom of the boiler. Downcomers carry the water from steam drum to the bottom part of the boilers where it enters the distribution headers to be heated in the combustion zone.
2. Risers are pipes leading from the bottom to the top of the boiler. Water and steam generated in the combustion zone, runs through the risers up to the steam drum. Steam is separated in steam drum and water sent to distribution header through downcomers and the cycle is repeated.
3. Distribution headers are big pipe headers that transfer water from the downcomers to the risers through a combustion zone where the water gets partially heated to steam from the heat of fuel combustion.
Steam boiler header
1. A steam header is the main steam supply pipeline, its function is to deliver steam in as high level of quality (dryness) as possible to the general areas where steam is needed.
2. It is a distribution pipe from a steam source. From it branches laterals to individual users. You can also have a return header that collects the spent low pressure steam and takes it to a steam condenser or other location.
3. There are other headers called condensate headers that collect the condensed steam of users and returns it to the boiler feedwater system.
