Custom carbon fiber composite sheets are made to meet specific requirements, such as size, thickness, weave pattern, and resin type. They are tailored to provide the desired strength, stiffness, and weight characteristics for a particular application.

This is made from 3K carbon fiber with a plain weave. What that means is that 3,000 individual strands of carbon fiber are bundled together to create a ribbon (called "tow"). These ribbons are then woven together to create a cloth sheet. The plain weave differs from the twill weave in that it creates a stiffer part that is less flexible. You want that in a carbon-fiber sheet because you want your fins to be stiffer so they don't flutter when the rocket takes off.

This carbon-fiber sheet is super tough! You'll find that cutting it is a real chore. And that is not just because it is strong, but because the finish is so smooth. It is hard for your knife to find any traction to scratch the surface. But after a lot of work, it is possible to cut it. We even tried cutting it on our CO2 laser cutter, and that didn't work at all. Other than maybe water-jet cutting it, the easiest way was the hobby knife. But expect to have a dull knife blade after cutting out a couple of fins. Sorry... We don't have any other suggestions on cutting it. It is TOUGH stuff!
