Function
Piston ring functions include sealing, regulating oil (oil control), heat conduction (heat transfer), guiding (support) four functions. Seal: means to seal the gas to prevent the gas from the combustion chamber from leaking into the crankcase, to control the leakage of gas at a minimum, and to improve the thermal efficiency. Air leakage will not only reduce the engine power, and will make the oil deterioration.
This is the main task of the gas ring; Adjust the oil (oil control): scrape off the excess oil on the cylinder wall, and make the cylinder wall with thin oil film, to ensure the normal lubrication of the cylinder, piston and ring, this is the main task of the oil ring. In modern high speed engines, special attention is paid to the role of piston ring in controlling oil film.
Heat conduction: through the piston ring piston heat conduction to the liner, that is, cooling effect. According to reliable data, the heat received by the piston top in the non-cooling piston is 70~80% through the piston ring to the cylinder wall and scattered, the cooling piston is 30~40% through the piston ring to the cylinder wall and scattered; Support: the piston ring keeps the piston in the cylinder, prevents direct contact between the piston and the cylinder wall, ensures smooth movement of the piston, reduces friction resistance, and prevents the piston from knocking the cylinder.
The piston of general gasoline engine USES two gas rings, one oil ring, and diesel engine usually USES two gas rings, one oil ring.
