Magnesium Oxide Application areas

 

It is used to determine sulfur and pyrite in coal and sulfur and arsenic in steel. It is used as a standard for white pigments. Light magnesium oxide is mainly used as a raw material for the preparation of ceramics, enamel, refractory crucibles and refractory bricks. It is also used as a polishing agent, adhesive, coating, and paper filler, and a promoter and activator for chloroprene rubber and fluororubber. After mixing with solutions such as magnesium chloride, it can be made into magnesium oxide water. It is used as an antacid and laxative in medicine, and is used for gastric acid hyperacidity and duodenal ulcers. It is used as a catalyst and a raw material for the manufacture of magnesium salts in the chemical industry. It is also used in the manufacture of glass, dye residue, phenolic plastics, etc. Heavy magnesium oxide is used for firing powder grinding and half-rollers in the rice milling industry. It is used in the construction industry to manufacture artificial chemical floors, artificial marble heat-resistant boards, sound insulation boards, and plastics industries as fillers. It can also be used to produce other magnesium salts.
One of the main uses of magnesium oxide is as a flame retardant. Traditional flame retardant materials widely use flame retardant mixtures composed of halogen-containing polymers or halogen-containing flame retardants. However, once a fire occurs, due to thermal decomposition and combustion, a large amount of smoke and toxic corrosive gases will be produced, which will hinder firefighting and personnel evacuation, and corrode instruments and equipment. In particular, people have found that more than 80% of deaths in fires are caused by thick smoke and toxic gases produced by materials. Therefore, in addition to flame retardant efficiency, low smoke and low toxicity are also essential indicators for flame retardants. The development of China's flame retardant industry is extremely unbalanced, with chlorine-based flame retardants accounting for a large proportion, ranking first among all flame retardants, among which chlorinated paraffin occupies a monopoly position. Application areas: In the biopharmaceutical field, medical grade magnesium oxide can be used as an antacid, adsorbent, desulfurizer, lead removal agent, complexing filter aid, and pH regulator. It is used as an antacid and laxative in medicine to inhibit and relieve excessive gastric acid and treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It has a strong, slow and lasting effect in neutralizing gastric acid and does not produce carbon dioxide.


Silicon steel grade


Application areas: Silicon steel grade magnesium oxide has good magnetic conductivity (i.e., it has a large positive magnetic susceptibility) and excellent insulation properties (i.e., the electrical conductivity can be as low as 10-14us/cm dense state). It can form a good insulating layer and magnetic conductive medium on the surface of silicon steel sheets to inhibit and overcome the eddy current and skin effect loss (referred to as iron loss) of the silicon steel core in the transformer. It improves the insulation performance of silicon steel sheets and is used as a high-temperature annealing isolator. It can also be used as ceramic materials, electronic materials, chemical raw materials, adhesives, additives, etc. It is used in silicon steel as a dephosphorizing agent, desulfurizing agent, and insulating coating generator.

Production Techniques

Magnesium oxide can be produced through various methods, including the carbonation process, calcination of magnesium hydroxide, soda ash process, and ammonium bicarbonate process.
