Description
The cold heading process is one of the new processes of metal pressure machining with little and no cutting. It is a processing method that uses the plastic deformation generated by the metal under the action of external force, and with the help of the mold, the metal volume is redistributed and transferred to form the required parts or blanks. The cold heading process is most suitable for the production of standard fasteners such as bolts, screws, nuts, rivets, and pins.
The cold heading process can improve material utilization. Take cold heading bolts as an example, the new process "recessed" hexagon head bolts, the material utilization rate can reach more than 99%. Except for the loss of material head and tail, completely no cutting processing is achieved. If machining is used, the material utilization rate is only 40%. The material utilization rate of cold heading nuts can also reach about 80%, while the material utilization rate of cutting nuts is only 54%.
The cold heading process can greatly improve productivity. For example, compared with the original cutting process, the productivity of cold heading nuts is increased by about 25-30 times.
