How to copper plate PCB boards
The overall process of copper plating on PCB boards can be summarized as: cleaning PCB boards-coating photosensitive glue-exposure and development-copper plating-cleaning and trimming-final processing.
1. Make copperizing solution
First prepare a certain proportion of copperizing solution, which is generally composed of copper sulfate, sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. Mix copper sulfate and sulfuric acid in a certain proportion, add enough water, and stir evenly. Then gradually add hydrochloric acid to the mixture and continue to stir. The final liquid is the copperizing solution.
2. Clean the PCB board
Use detergent to clean the prepared PCB board to remove dirt and oxide layer on the surface. Then rinse with clean water and keep dry.
3. Apply photosensitive glue
Evenly apply the photosensitive glue on the copper-plated surface of the PCB board and use a light shield to block it. Then place the PCB board in a dryer to completely dry the photosensitive glue.
4. Expose and develop
Align the dried PCB board with the drawing layer and use an exposure machine to expose it. Then place the exposed PCB board in the developer and wait for the developer to dissolve the unexposed photosensitive glue part to reveal the copper disk pattern.
5. Copper plating
According to the revealed copper disk pattern, place the PCB board in the copperizing solution for copper plating. First, chemical copper plating is performed on the PCB board, and then electroplating is performed to make the copper layer more solid. According to different needs, copper plating can be performed multiple times to obtain a thicker copper layer.
6. Cleaning and trimming
The copper-plated PCB board is cleaned with dilute sulfuric acid to remove the oxide layer on the surface. Then trimming is performed to remove the excess copper layer, making the circuit on the PCB board clearer.
7. Final treatment
The trimmed PCB board is treated with anti-corrosion to protect the copper layer from oxidation and corrosion.
