The use of Internet also brings explosive growth for the data transmission requirements as well as the transmission speed. In the area of LAN (LAN), although there are various systems and protocols, there is one thing that is the same, that is, to continuously improve the speed of network transmission. Taking Ethernet as an example, since 90s, the introduction of Ethernet technology and the high utilization ratio of personal computers and workstations have promoted the development of LAN. Today, the new generation of multimedia, groupware, image transmission and surge information of database products make the speed of 10Mb/s Ethernet faces severe challenges and force Ethernet to develop to a higher speed.
Its transmission speed is from 10Mbit/s (low speed Ethernet) to 100Mbit/s (high speed Ethernet). IEEE passed IEEE802.3z's Gigabits Ethernet (GbE) standard in 1998. And 10Gigabit Ethernet standard IEEE802.3ae also passed.
IEEE802.3ae standard defines optical fiber as the transmission medium of 10GbE network, including single-mode fiber and multi-mode optical fiber. The standard defines, at the wavelength of 850nm, the transmission distance of multimode fiber is from 28 meters of the ordinary 62.5/125um gradient multimode fiber to 300 meters of the laser optimized multimode fiber. In order to reach the transmission distance of 300 meters, the ordinary multimode fiber is powerless so it is necessary to optimize the production technology of optical fiber and control the process of optical fiber accurately, in order to develop a new laser optimized multimode optical fiber.
