Sleeve is an important part in optical fiber adapter, which directly affects the insertion loss of the fiber adapter. Insertion loss refers to the attenuation of optical power caused by the fiber optic adapter to the system (i.e., the relative decrease of the output power of the fiber optic adapter relative to the input power). The insertion loss is mainly caused by the deviation between two adjacent fibers. If two fibers are arranged in a straight line and deviate is zero, the insertion loss is minimized. But in the actual connection of fiber adapter, the possibility of straight line is small, because the difference of fiber core and the fiber cladding, the fiber cladding and the ferrule hole is not concentric, as well as concentricity error between the ferrule and the outer diameter, will cause the transverse deviation between the fibers. The longitudinal clearance and the end face quality of the optical fiber joint are also one of the factors leading to the insertion loss. The UPC spherical end face can solve the problem of longitudinal clearance. The ferrule and the optical fiber end face are polished by the spherical surface, so that two connected cores are meshed together under the action of the external force, so that the vertex of the meshing optical fiber is deformed and flattened, and the optical fiber is fully butted to reduce the longitudinal clearance in the optical fiber joint.
