The 90-degree elbow is the most commonly used type of elbow in pipeline installation, serving to change the direction of piping systems. 90-degree elbows are categorized by their bending radius into long radius (LR) elbows and short radius (SR) elbows. The American standard ANSI/ASME B16.9 elbow refers to elbows manufactured according to the standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The ASME standards, incorporating many ANSI standards, cover a broad range of industrial fields including materials, processing, techniques, testing, etc.
The connection of elbow components is predominantly achieved through welding processes. To ensure high quality, the ends of the elbows are beveled with a specific slope and edge size, which are critical and strictly controlled. The surface manufacturing of the elbows does not differ significantly from that of pipelines.
The components contained within the elbows require surface re-treatment, where the oxidized inner and outer layers are uniformly coated with anti-rust paint via spraying techniques. This is essential for facilitating transportation, easing international exports, and reducing wear and tear on the products, making it a crucial step in the production process.
In pipeline systems, butt weld fittings are pressure pipeline components used in the petrochemical, electric power, and other industries to change pipe direction or diameter, branch pipes, and achieve special connections. These fittings, which connect to pipes via welding, are especially suitable for long pipelines that do not require frequent dismantling. Due to changes in flow direction and cross-sectional area at the installation site, these components experience complex internal and external stress conditions, and the quality of the fittings directly affects the safe and stable operation of the entire pipeline system.
