The advantages of quartz sand are wide distribution and low cost; but its shortcomings are also quite obvious: first, the expansion coefficient is large, and the casting precision is low; second, the surface of the casting is heavily sanded, and sand cleaning is difficult. The reason is that quartz has a variety of homomorphic crystals formed at different temperatures, and the volume changes greatly; the degree of refractor (the refractoriness of quartz sand is between 1400 and 1700 °C) is limited, and the casting is partially (hole, The groove and the part where the hot section is concentrated) are severely stuck, and it is very difficult to clean. The above disadvantages are particularly serious in the production of large steel castings.
Orb sand can overcome these shortcomings and greatly improve the quality of castings.
