Local dimming introduction

Local dimming is a feature commonly used in LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels, and AM refers to the active matrix technology used in LCD displays.

Local dimming is a technique used to enhance the contrast and black levels of an LCD display by controlling the backlighting behind specific areas of the screen. It involves dividing the backlight into different zones and dynamically adjusting the brightness of each zone based on the content being displayed.

With local dimming, when a specific part of the screen needs to display a darker image or black content, the LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes) behind that area can be dimmed or turned off, resulting in deeper blacks and improved contrast. Conversely, when brighter content is displayed, the LEDs behind the corresponding zones can be brightened to enhance the overall brightness and maintain image clarity.

Active matrix (AM) is a technology used in LCD displays to control each individual pixel. It utilizes a thin-film transistor (TFT) for each pixel, allowing precise control of the liquid crystal molecules that determine the light transmission properties of the display.
