5.5 Battery compartments Construction - Secure the battery compartment using
Option 1:it requires a tool, such as a screwdriver or coin
• Opening must require a minimum torque of 0.5 Nm (4.4 in-lb) and a minimum angle of 90 degrees of rotation, or the fastener(s) must engage a minimum of two full threads.
Option 2: it requires a minimum of two independent and simultaneous hand movements to open.
5.6 Screws or fasteners must be captive to the door, cover, or device
PERFORMANCE requirements
6.1 Button/coin cell batteries shall not be accessible or liberated from the product as a result of mechanical abuse tests
Products with button cell or coin batteries that are removable or replaceable.
5.2/5.3/5.4 A removable or replaceable button cell or coin battery must not be accessible
Accessibility Test:
① Determine whether Test Probe 11 from IEC 61032 can touch the battery.
② If part of the compartment may be opened or removed either without using a tool or with less effort than two
independent and simultaneous movements by hand, open or remove such part.
③ If the battery compartment enclosure is protected by pliable material such as fabric, paper etc., apply 70.0 N (15.7 lbf) tension Test for Seams Per ASTM F963
④ Repeat test to determine whether Test Probe 11 from IEC 61032 can touch the battery.
6.2 Pre-conditioning: a) Stress relief test - at least 7 hours at 70°C (158 °F) or 10°C (18 °F) higher than the maximum operation temperature - cool to room temperature after removal from the oven.
b) Battery replacement test - Open the battery compartment enclosure, remove and replace the button cell or coin battery, and close the battery compartment enclosure for a total of 10 cycles. If secure with screw, screw must be loosened and then tightened each time with the Torque in UL60065 Table 20.

6.3.5 Compliance.
• 6.3.5.1 After the tests of 6.3.2 – 6.3.4B, a force of 50 +10/-0 N (11.2 +2.2/-0 lbf) is applied for 10 s to the battery compartment door/cover or enclosure by a rigid test finger according to Test Probe 11 of the Standard for Protection of Persons and Equipment by Enclosures – Probes for Verification, IEC 61032. The probe is applied at the most unfavorable place and in the most unfavorable direction. The force shall be applied in only one direction. A battery compartment door/cover shall not open and shall remain functional. The battery shall not be accessible.
