The MVI56-GSC module from Allen-Bradley and ProSoft technology is a serial interface module that is designed to be part of the ControlLogix platform in an industrial system. It is a generic ASCII interface module that can be used to add 2 ASCII communication ports to the industrial ControlLogix platform, and it can add these ports without using the front port on the ControlLogix processor and without using up any valuable processing time. This makes the MVI56-GSC generic ASCII interface module as efficient and convenient as possible and allows the front port on the host ControlLogix processor to be used for connecting to another device. The 2 ASCII communication ports on the MVI56-GSC serial interface module can both send and receive long ASCII character strings and both ports are fully configurable.
The Allen-Bradley/ProSoft Technology MVI56-GSC generic ASCII serial interface module is compatible with most Allen-Bradley 1756 series backplanes and it only needs 1 slot for installation in this backplane. It can also be installed in either a local or remote rack within a system. The MVI56-GSC serial interface module is recognized by its host system as an I/O module and this means that it has access to the processor memory so that it can perform data transfers with the processor. Its backplane current load rating is 800 milliamps at 5 Volts DC and 3 milliamps at 24 Volts DC. The module’s ambient operating temperature range is from 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and its ambient storage temperature range is from -40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. It can tolerate up to 30 g of operating shock.
