The commonly used sealing methods for connecting polycarbonate sheets with aluminum profiles are as follows:
Use sealing tape
Material and characteristics: Generally, sealing strips made of EPDM rubber or silicone rubber are used. EPDM rubber strips have good weather resistance, aging resistance, and ozone resistance, while silicone rubber strips perform well in high and low temperature resistance, as well as good elasticity and sealing performance.
Installation method: Usually, a sealing strip installation groove is set in the slot or installation groove of the aluminum profile, and the sealing strip is embedded in it. When installing polycarbonate sheets, the rubber strip will be squeezed between the sheet and the profile, forming a seal. For example, in the aluminum frame of a sunroom, this method is often used to seal polycarbonate sheets, effectively preventing rainwater and dust from entering.
Apply sealant
Material and characteristics: Commonly used are silicone sealant and polyurethane sealant. Silicone sealant has excellent weather resistance, water resistance, and UV resistance. The cured adhesive layer has good elasticity and bonding strength; Polyurethane sealant has high bonding strength, good bonding effect on various materials, and good oil resistance and wear resistance.
Construction method: At the connection between polycarbonate sheet and aluminum profile, clean the surface first, and then evenly apply sealant. You can use a glue gun for construction to ensure that the glue layer is continuous, uniform, without bubbles or gaps. After the sealant solidifies, a sealed connection layer will be formed. For example, in some greenhouses, sealant is applied to the gaps between aluminum profiles and polycarbonate sheets to enhance waterproof performance.
Using waterproof tape
Material and characteristics: Generally used as butyl rubber waterproof tape or acrylic waterproof tape. Butyl rubber waterproof tape has good water resistance, low temperature resistance and aging resistance, strong viscosity, and can be closely bonded with a variety of materials; Acrylic waterproof tape has good weather resistance, transparency, and high aesthetic appeal.
Installation method: Stick waterproof tape on the connection between aluminum profile and polycarbonate board. Usually, clean the surface of the profile first, fix one end of the tape, and then slowly unfold and compact it to ensure that the tape is fully adhered to the profile and board, eliminating air. In some small polycarbonate sheet structures, such as simple sunshades, waterproof tape is often used for sealing, which is simple to construct and cost-effective.
