Our Petroleum tape is wrapped as an inner wrapping tape for additional protection against corrosion. Additionally, it has an extra layer as outer wrapping tape that provides mechanical protection for maximum durability.

The breaking strength of the material, according to ASTM D1000 , is a minimum of 200 N/50 mm . Water vapor transmission, based on ASTM E96-66 Procedure A , has an average of 0.006 perms . Elongation at breakage, on average, is 10% . Breakdown voltage with 55% overlap is a minimum of 16 kV . These values provide insight into the manufacturing quality and performance capabilities of this material.
The material has also been subjected to testing for resistance to cathodic disbonding over a period of 30 days, according to ASTM G-8 . The average result was 180 mm2 , indicating good resistance to this type of damage. Additionally, the material has been tested and found to have excellent resistance to acids, alkalies, and salts.

To prepare surfaces for coating, it is important to remove all loose scale, rust or any foreign matter. This can be achieved by following the SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning” or SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning” guidelines. Additionally, a high-pressure water wash with a range of 3,000 - 7,000 psi (20.68 - 48.26 MPa) can be used for this purpose.
To ensure a secure and effective coat, it is recommended to apply a thin film of petroleum paste before wrapping the surface with tape. The tape should be spirally wrapped with a 55% overlap and air pockets should be pressed out while lap seams are smoothed. This method is suitable for regular surfaces.
If the surface contains irregular shapes such as valves or flanges, Petroleum Filler Mastic or Profiling Mastic can be used to bridge gaps and smooth out any rough patches. Finally, PVC Tape can be applied as an outer wrap for mechanical protection.
