The solenoid assembly consists of a coil, plunger, and sleeve assembly. In a normally closed valve, a plunger return spring holds the plunger against the orifice, preventing flow through the valve. The armature tube is the stainless steel or brass tubular element used as a guide for the movable core which is actuated by the magnetic force generated by the coil.

However it is necessary to use caution when specifying a solenoid valve for an unfamiliar fluid. Use caution when selecting a material suited specifically for the media.
