Rail mounted gantry crane or RMG crane, is commonly used for the quick, safe and automated handling of containers. The crane provides high performance, reliability, low operating costs and low energy consumption, playing a key role in facilitating the operations of yard stacking. The gantry crane can be designed with a wide range of capacities and sizes to accommodate different container capacities. The span of the crane is designed according to the rows of containers that need to be crossed.

Container gantry crane is a type of large wharf gantry crane which at container terminals for loading and unloading intermodal containers. It is available with span of 5~8 containers wide (plus a truck width) and with lifting height from 1 over 3 to 1 over 6 containers high.

Container gantry crane composed of a gantry structure that can traverse the length of a wharf or yard on a rail. Instead of general hook, container gantry crane equipped with a specialized container spreader, which will be lowered on top of the container and used for locks onto the container's four corner casting.
