ASTM A790 UNS S31803 is a specification for duplex steel materials, which are steel alloys containing chromium and molybdenum. These alloying elements enhance the strength and corrosion resistance of the pipes. SA 790 UNS S31803 belongs to the super duplex grade, offering even higher strength and improved corrosion resistance. Duplex grades are categorized into three groups: Duplex, Lean Duplex, and Super Duplex. Super Duplex is specifically used in applications operating at high temperatures.
Duplex UNS S31803 pipes possess high strength due to their production characteristics. The material can be either hot rolled and welded or cold drawn. Cold drawn tubes are seamless and have lower absolute roughness, providing dimensional accuracy. Conversely, hot rolled and welded A928 UNS S31803 material is stronger and suitable for welding applications. ASTM A790 UNS S31803 pipes are easily weldable, making them a preferred choice for high-pressure applications requiring extensive welding during installation.
SA 790 UNS S31803 tubing exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion in seawater and chloride-rich environments. This chloride ion corrosion stress crack resistance makes it a cost-effective long-term solution. Duplex 31803 seamless tubing finds applications in high-sensitivity settings where accurate measurements are required. However, the seamless nature of these tubes reduces their strength compared to duplex UNS S31803 welded pipes. A790 gr S31803 DSS ERW pipes are commonly used in seawater and marine environments, chemical industries, food processing plants, heat generators, automotive parts, boiler components, and other high-temperature applications. Electrofusion Welded Duplex S31803 UNS EFW pipes can also be used interchangeably in less specific application requirements.
