Introduction

 

The production process for GR3 titanium wire generally involves several key steps, as outlined below:

 

1. Melting: The initial phase in creating titanium wire is melting the titanium metal within a furnace. An arc furnace or vacuum furnace is typically employed to heat the titanium sponge to elevated temperatures until it liquefies.

 

2. Forming: Post-melting, the liquid titanium is poured into a mold where it solidifies into an ingot. This ingot is usually cylindrical and can measure several feet in length with a diameter of several inches.

 

3. Rolling: The ingot undergoes reheating and is then passed through a rolling mill to be transformed into a slender round bar. This rolling step not only reduces the thickness of the metal but also enhances its grain structure, which boosts its strength and flexibility.

 

4. Drawing: The round bar is subsequently pulled through a series of dies to decrease its diameter, resulting in the formation of GR3 titanium wire. This drawing process may involve multiple stages to achieve the desired wire diameter.

 

5. Annealing: After reaching the final diameter, the GR3 titanium wire is annealed to increase its pliability and eliminate any residual stress within the material. Annealing involves heating the wire to a high temperature followed by a gradual cooling process.

 

6. Finishing: The final step is to clean and refine the titanium wire to remove surface impurities or flaws. This cleaning process may include treatments such as polishing or pickling.
