The titanium wire forms a stable carbide of higher hardness with carbon. The growth of the carbonized layer between titanium and carbon is determined by the diffusion rate of titanium in the carbonized layer.
In contrast, a thin layer of titanium carbide may be formed during carburization in charcoal under deoxidation or decarburization conditions. The hardness of this layer is 32OUOMPa, in line with the hardness of titanium carbide. The depth of carburizing layer is greater than that of nitriding layer under the same conditions. Under the condition of oxygen enrichment, the influence of oxygen absorption on the hardening depth must be considered. Only under very thin layer thickness conditions, in vacuum or in an argon-methane atmosphere, it is possible to form a sufficient adhesive strength of the carbonized powder compared with gas carburizing agent, it is possible to form a particularly hard and cohesive titanium carbide hardening layer.

The purer the titanium, the more plastic it is. Good corrosion resistance, not affected by the atmosphere and seawater. At room temperature, it will not be corroded by hydrochloric acid below 7%, sulfuric acid below 5%, nitric acid, aqua regia or dilute alkali solution;
